Luxury Mountain Home One-Day Makeover

This wonderful mountain home west of Denver went from from good to gorgeous in just a few hours.

A One-Day Makeover is a simple way to change the look of your home without buying anything new. Most people have more than enough furniture and furnishings, and need just a little help pulling it all together.

Living Room Before

Living Room After

What Happened in this Room?

  • Loveseats were angled slightly to reveal the pretty windows framing either side of the fireplace and the spectacular mountain view outside

  • A handsome rug adds just the right amount of color to a neutral palette and draws the eye toward the fireplace

  • A small trunk serves as a coffee table without competing for attention

  • One elegant plant on the hearth is just the right accent to lead the eye up toward the mantle

  • The vase and tiny box were replaced by larger objects, more in scale with the mantle. A round carving on one side, and a similar sized print on the other (all in a consistent neutral color scheme) balance the display

  • Note that the picture on the right leans against the wall and overlaps the middle picture. Not all pictures have to hang on nails

  • A mid-sized plant between the windows adds a touch of green and softens the corner

Master Bedroom Before

Master Bedroom After

What Happened in this Room?

  • A large white dresser which previously blocked entry into the room was moved to the foot of the bed for a cleaner look

  • Larger art over the bed in the same colors as bedding has a stunning impact on entry

  • Shelves on the side of the bed have been rearranged to show off the side bar, a very special feature in a bedroom

Boy's Bedroom Before

Boy's Bedroom After

What Happened in this Room?

  • Dark bedding is folded at the foot of the bed to allow the lighter blanket to show and provide some contrast

  • Picture is moved to the wall above the bed adding more interest

  • Trunk is moved to the foot of the bed, adding layers of color and making an adjoining wall less crowded

  • Drape is removed from the nightstand for a cleaner look

  • Roman shades are raised to allow more light into the room

  • Small plants on the nightstands add life and color

Master Bath Before

Master Bath After

What Happened in this Room?

  • Large CD player was removed

  • Shampoos and toiletries are put away

  • Picture from another area of the home is hung so that it reflects in the mirrors

  • Plants from another room add much needed life and color and draw attention to the beautiful mountain setting

Whether you're selling your home, or just want to enjoy it more, the ideas used in this mountain home One-Day Makeover involved only rearranging furniture and existing furnishings. Nothing new was bought for this home.

Try looking at your home with new eyes. Can you see ways to make your rooms more functional, comfortable and beautiful?
